Sushi and Rachel's Visit

Jay's daughter Rachel came for a visit from Hawaii where she lives with her dear hubby Jason and where she works as a massage therapist.
This is the scene that greeted her upon arrival. Being prepared with boots and warm jacket,
the weather did not affect her visit at all. We all got together for a delightful meal of sushi and two kinds of pie.
Below you can see how simple it is to put together what most of us call California Rolls.
We seared the salmon after marinating it in secret ingredients so that we could all enjoy it because some of those among us wouldn't be able to eat raw salmon!
Lovella has placed a sheet of seaweed on the cutting board.
It isn't easy to get this here, so we look for it when we go to the big cities in the west when we visit family there.
Below, she layers some sticky rice on top.

We put thinly sliced cucumbers, salmon, lettuce strips and cilantro on most of them.

And then they are rolled and sliced.

In about half of the rolls we placed some sliced cream cheese.
Rachel's lovely lavender nails show well here too!

Two large platters were put together for the seven of us, and we ate most of them!
The dipping sauce was wasabi, soy sauce, and pickled ginger.

And then we had the DESSERT!
Lovella had made a Chocolate Cheesecake, and I had made a Pumpkin Pie.
Yum, yum, yum.
We all had a sweet time while Rachel was here, wishing she could stay longer.
Perhaps we'll visit her this summer...(BIG PERHAPS).
And here she is: Sweet Rachel Dee

It must have been fun for her to be greeted with snow after living in Hawaii.
Beautiful California rolls! I love them. You have to have the right kind of rice for them too, don't you?

Wow! How did Jay do with the California rolls?

I'm so glad you had a pleasant visit. She looks a lot like Lovella, doesn't she?
